The Society schedules at least one annual Statewide get together for a weekend of all things astronomy, star gazing and astro imaging. In recent years these weekends have been held at the Fonthill Farmstay accommodation, east of Oatlands. Here, the night skies are dark and pristine and the hosts, ever obliging with good farm style meals, comfortable accommodation and good cheer.
These events are eagerly anticipated and often book out soon after registrations open.
Members arrive on the Friday afternoon, stay the two nights and depart on the Sunday. A varied program of workshops, presentations and discussion groups is run on the Saturday. The real action, though, is the Friday and Saturday evenings. If the skies are clear there are laser guided tours fo the night sky highlights followed by up close and personal views of these highlights using a wide range of member’s telescopes.
The site, with it’s pristine dark skies is also a mecca for astro imagers.
